Surgical Pathology Report

Kevin and I met with my surgeon yesterday , my report was finally in . It was a 19 day wait for this one.

There are many details involved with the 4 page report but I will just write about the most important and what they mean as far as treatment.
I was prepared for receiving this report and knew the things that I wanted to know . To begin with I needed to have a clean margin . This was not the case my report showed a 1.5 mm margin . From what I gather invasive cancer is within 1.5mm of healthy tissue and the standard is 2mm .What does this all mean for me ? It means more surgery . There was also another area closer to the chest wall that fell below the margin , this area is inoperable therefore I will be needing Chemo . They removed a total of 22 lymph nodes and 2 were found to have cancer . My er/pr analysis was positive , this was a good thing . It means my cancer is growing as a response to my hormones and I will have another treatment option .
I will talk more on my feelings about chemo and hormone drugs when I'm closer to dealing with those treatments . When discussing my options once again with my surgeon I choose  to conserve the breast . I have faith in my surgeon and medical team I will be monitored closely and would still need chemo if I choose to have the breast removed . I am scheduled for surgery Jan 9th .

Its been a rough time for me and Kevin . Kevin's dad lost his battle with cancer on Friday . He was such a handsome and brave man . He has inspired me in my fight against this stupid disease.
